Indigo Canines
Virtual Service Dog Course
Train your own service dog from home without doing it alone, with personalized guidance and support built around your team.
Train your own service dog, with support along the way.
The Virtual Service Dog Program is designed for owner-trainers who want to train their own dog from home without having to figure it all out alone. You’ll follow a structured curriculum with individualized feedback from Lynn and a clear training pathway built around you, your dog, and life together as a working team.
This is more than a collection of videos or a self-paced training guide. The program includes 24 lessons covering obedience, public access, handler education, and individualized task training, with evaluations built into the process to help ensure you and your dog are progressing successfully.
Throughout each module, you’ll submit videos of you and your dog working together for Lynn to personally review. You’ll receive feedback on your progress, guidance on what to adjust, and support as you move through the program. Our virtual course is about bringing the individualized approach of Indigo Canines to you, wherever you are.
Course curriculum
Foundation & Communication

Movement & Impulse Control
Develop reliable everyday skills including loose-leash walking, heel, leave it, wait and stay while beginning to build reliability around distractions.
Social Neutrality & Real-World Reliability
Build appropriate behavior around people and other dogs while proofing learned skills with greater distance, duration, distractions and real world practice.
Public Access
Prepare for life as a working team through public access manners, extended settling, busy environments and navigating everyday challenges like elevators, doors, and unusual spaces.
Individualized Task Training
Work through your selected task training package, progressing from task foundations to reliable, real world application.
Handler Education & Graduation
Learn the human side of being a service dog team, including handler responsibilities, access rights, maintaining training, advocating for your dog and preparing for graduation.
How feedback works
Each module ends with a video submission so Lynn can see you and your dog working together. You’ll receive personalized feedback on your progress, guidance on anything that needs adjusting, and clear direction for what to work on next before continuing through the program.
Submit a training video
Record yourself working through the module exercises with your dog.
Lynn reviews it
Personal video or written feedback on your specific session, not generic tips.
Adjust and continue
Apply the feedback before moving to the next module. No rushing ahead.
The evaluation process
Before beginning the course, we’ll complete an initial evaluation to learn more about you and your dog, assess your dog’s temperament and current skills and make sure owner training through our virtual program is an appropriate fit for your team.
Service work asks a lot of a dog, and owner training asks a lot of the handler, too. This evaluation helps us make sure your dog has the potential to succeed in service work and that the structure of the Virtual Program is a good match for your needs before you invest in the full course.
Once your team is approved to move forward, we’ll work with you to determine which task training package best aligns with your needs and the ways you would like your service dog to support you. That package will guide the individualized task training portion of your course.
Submit your inquiry
Tell us about yourself, your dog, your disabilities, and how you’re hoping a service dog will help you.
Initial review
Lynn will personally review your inquiry to determine whether the Virtual Service Dog Program is able to provide the training and support you’re looking for.
Complete your dog’s evaluation
If the program looks like a potential fit, you’ll receive instructions for submitting several short videos of your dog in specific scenarios. Lynn will review them to evaluate temperament, behavior, trainability, and suitability for service work.
Enroll and begin
If your dog is approved for the program, you’ll move forward with enrollment and begin Module 1. We’ll also help you determine which task training package best fits your needs and goals for your service dog.
